There you go, another midnight sandwich.. something different, simple, interesting. 3 slices of bread some of you might ask? ya.. i just like to have bread in 3s. no reason for that. anyway, i arranged the sausage criss-crossed to get more bite on the sausage.

cheesy omelette

Ingredients:
an egg, well beaten with some pepper
a sausage, cubed or sliced
half onion, cubed or coarsely chopped
a slice of cheddar cheese
some cooking oil

Method:
1. Stir fry the onion and sausage.
2. Pour in the beaten egg to make an omelette.
3. When the omelette is half cooked, put the cheddar cheese on top and fold the omellete.
4. Cook until the omelette is done.

Serves 1

This is my first time cooking a cheese omelette. I've found some leftover cheese which god knows how long I've left it in the refrigerator. So this is what I've done with it. It tastes nice. Creamy and quite heavy. I'm sure it tastes better if eaten with bread. But i ate it with noodles instead.

Oh ya, I put the cheese on the egg when the egg is still a lil bit sticky and moist. Be sure not to tear the omellete. Otherwise, the melted cheese will get very messy.

Enjoy this sinfully high cholesterol meal!

tandoori chicken

I have been enjoying tandoori chicken for the past few days :) My mom brought it here all the way from Taiping! Just as expected from my mom, it was very tasty, the herbs and spices all just right. I don't know the recipe for it... so I can't post it up... anyways, I'll be having my tandoori chicken again tonight! :)

ang dau chui

Ingredients:
1/2 bowl of ang dau (read beans)
3 - 4 bowls of water
sugar to taste
some pandan leaves

Preperation:
Soak the ang dau for 4 to 5 hours
Wash the pandan leaves.

Method:
1. Boil the soaked ang dau with pandan leaves until it softens (this might take an hour or more on conventional pot and less than half an hour on a pressure cooker).
2. Remove the pandan leaves.
3. Add sugar to taste.

i felt like having ang dau chui for tong sui so here it is. it's something i enjoy and i found out that there are three types of ang dau chui that is being served. it depends on the duration they cook it. i've came across ang dau chui which its beans are a lil bit on the hard side. this gives more texture to the ang dau and you can munch on it. the second would be the soft ang dau. the beans are all soft and somehow it feels like eating porridge. the third would be ang dau gar (ice blended ang dau). i personally prefer softer ang dau chui and ang dau gar. since i don't have a food blender, i would have to settle for the former. anyway, it's nice. oh ya, i added some milk to substitute santan and it turned out fine too :)

*taiping's ang dau gar at rex is worth the try!

Slice the meatballs
Beat the egg

Method:
1. Stir fry the garlic and the sliced meatballs.
2. Pour the fried ingredients into the boiling water.
3. Boil until fragrant and add in salt and pepper to taste.
4. Add in mee suah.
5. Once done, turn off fire and add in beaten egg.

Serves 1

well, this is another dish that is simple but a lil bit unbalanced. i don't have any greens left so this is what i came up with. anyways, it is healthier than instant noodles :p eating this mee suah th'ng reminds me of two occasions; chinese new year's breakfast and birthday's breakfast. but for those occasions, the egg is hard boiled first instead of beaten up.

mee suah symbolizes longevity, hence it is used in those occasions i guess. anyway, longevity or not, it sure is nostalgic having mee suah th'ng here.

1/2 cup mixed vegetables
1/2 cup groundnuts
2 cloves garlic
oil
salt and pepper

Preparations:
Slice the lap cheong and mushroom into thin slices
Chop the garlic
Soak groundnuts for 2 to 3 hours, and boil until it is cooked
*groundnuts take a long time to cook
Drain the water after cooked.

Method:
1. Stir fry the lap cheong and mushroom with the garlic.
2. Pour rice, water, mixed vegetable, cooked groundnuts and the stir fried ingredients into a rice cooker.
3. Add salt and pepper to taste.
4. Cook until rice is soft and tender.

This is a variation of the lap cheong fan that i normally cook. i had loh mai fan a few weeks back and suddenly i felt like eating loh mai fan again. so this is the nearest i can get considering that i don't have any glutinous rice, mushrooms and chicken.

So the past few days was some sort of food fiesta. i was back home with my friend and his girl. so we ate around town, eating what we could. but there were a few things which i wanted them to try but missed the chance. anyway, i'm sure he'd come back often, and she'd be following him back. sooner or later she'll be a taiping kaki anyways.

so this is a list of the things i ate
  • char koay kark at thai or
  • pork noodles at casual market
  • ang dau gar at casual market
  • heoh peah from ipoh
  • lor mai fan from jw's mom
  • chicken stew by my mom
  • kuih sago by my mom
  • siam laksa from taman pertama's pasar malam
what they ate..
  • char hu wuan kuih teow at casual market
  • mee rebus at casual market
  • chicken chop at yew lee
food which is worth the try but missed the chance
  • char kuih kark opposite the basketball court at taman sening
  • seafood porridge at matang (lunch only)
  • hokkien mee at hawker's centre and taiping dau chui
  • char ark nui koay teow under the water tank at greenhouse area
  • kayang kok from aulong
  • heoh peah from aulong
  • cendol behind sgi
  • popiah at rex
  • ang dau gar at rex
so those were the things that i wanted to eat and i wanted his girl to try but too bad... next trip perhaps.

garlic rice with kai pah

Ingredients:
3 to 4 cloves of garlic
2 tablespoons of butter
1/4 cup of rice
3/4 cup of water
1 piece chicken keel
salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:
Chop the garlic.
Grill the chicken with some butter. Do not throw the leftover butter.

Method:
1. Cook the rice with the chopped garlic, butter, salt and pepper
2. Pour the leftover butter from the grilled chicken into the rice when the rice is cooked.
3. Serve hot with the grilled chicken and some cucumber.

This is a simple dish which turned out to be very nice. It's even better than my previous chicken rice but this dish uses alot of butter. i'd recommend this coz it tastes really nice. just perfect.
